  We have all blown it (sinned) at some point in our lives.   For all have sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God;
Romans 3:23

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 6:23
  Because we have sinned, we have been separated from God. We are imperfect (sinners), yet He is perfect (Holy). Because He is a just God, He can not allow us into Heaven in our imperfection (sin). Without God's intervention, we are doomed to an eternal separation from God in Hell.
God loves us, and He knew there was no way we could attain the perfection (holiness) necessary to get into heaven by ourselves, so He made a plan. God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to take the judgment that was due us (eternal separation from God in Hell), on Himself. Instead of pouring His wrath out on us, God poured out His wrath on His only Son Jesus. Jesus became our substitute. Jesus exchanged His eternal life for our eternal death. He died on the cross for us so that we could have eternal life!   But God commendeth his love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8
  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus Christ, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Romans 10:9

  Dear God,
I know that I have sinned and fallen short of your plan for my life, and I am sorry for my sin.
I believe that Jesus Christ is your son.
I believe that you sent Jesus to die on the cross for me,
and I believe that you raised Him from the dead victoriously.
Jesus, I trust you with my life.
I ask you to be my Lord and Savior.
In Jesus' Name, Amen.
